The red hot Niners travel to Nissan Stadium in Nashville for week sixteen’s Thursday Night Football. San Fran are coming off a decent stretch of games, going 5-1 over their last six, taking down some heavy weights in the process. In that six-game stretch, they have beaten the Rams, Vikings and Cincinnati, and put themselves firmly in playoff contention. Tennessee on the other hand, are very up and down. Over the same six game stretch, the Titans are 3-3, but have lost to the Texans, Patriots and Steelers in the process. While the Patriots are considered a contender for the AFC Championship, the same cannot be said for the Texans and Steelers.
Looking for some positives for Tennessee, their defence has been decent for the season, particularly their run defence. They are currently second in yards allowed per game, averaging 86.9 allowed. As dangerous as San Fran can be throwing the ball to Kittle, Samuel and Aiyuk, they are a run first team and if Kyle Shanahan’s run playbook gets shutdown, it’s sure to throw a spanner in the works.
The main reason I am siding with the 49ers, however, is that Tennessee has only scored over 13 points once in their last four games, and it’s not going to get any easier tonight. The Titans are missing their two best offensive linemen, Lewan and Saffold, which means Nick Bosa and the 49ers defensive line are going to feast. Tannehill has been playing ok in 2021, but if he doesn’t have any protection, it’s going to be hard for Tennessee to get any rhythm going. 49ers take it in a relatively low scoring affair.
