Week 14 Waiver Wire Targets

by | Mar 26, 2022 | NFL

This is it, baby. The final game before Fantasy playoffs. Hopefully everyone is either already qualified or in with a shout, going into the final game.

I am currently making the playoffs in my league, sitting in joint first place with an 8-5 record. There is a bit of cash on the line, so I am putting it out there now that if I take home the coveted trophy and resulting prize, I will put all the winnings (and some of my own cash) into a Bulldog Sports celebration party, which will compliment a nice announcement I have to make in the coming weeks. Everyone light their candles.

Week 13 Hits(ish):

  • Alexander Mattison: 19.90
  • Taylor Heinicke: 14.84
  • Tevin Coleman: 9.20

Week 14 Waiver Wire Targets:

QB:

Cam Newton – I think we are all just going to forget about that performance against the Dolphins in week 12, where Newton connected on five of his 21 passing attempts. Finishing the game with 92 yards and two INTs, Newton was benched for PJ Walker after spectacularly failing to get the offence going. The good news for Cam is the Dolphins defence has been on fire in recent weeks and have made a few other QBs look silly. The Panthers also face a Falcons defence in week 14 that have been getting destroyed on a regular basis in the 2021 season. The Panthers are without Christian McCaffrey as well, so you would expect Newton to get some goal line touches, if the opportunities present themselves. He put up an excellent 26.16 points the week previously and he could do something similar here.

RB:

D’onta Foreman/Dontrell Hilliard  I referenced both Tennessee RBs in my Week 13 article, so hopefully some of you got on that before the majority this week. Foreman is currently projected to outpace his teammate, Hilliard in week 14 with his projected points coming in around 12.70 in half-point PPR leagues. Hilliard is projected for 4.36. You can take the projections with a pinch of salt, but what will likely happen on game day is that Foreman will get the early down touches and Hilliard will get the late/passing downs.

Neither have a massive load of work to review, but both put up exceptional performances in their week 12 match-up with New England. Foreman rushed 19 times for 109 yards, averaging a very impressive 5.7 yards a carry, against a decent run defence. Foreman finished the day with 9.7 points.

Hilliard outduelled his Titans teammate on the day, rushing 12 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. The Tulane running back averaged a monstrous 10.9 yards a carry and put his name firmly in contention for a solid workload against the Jaguars in week 14.

It’s hard to definitively pick who is going to get the larger workload in week 14, but I would probably side with the fantasy app and go with Foreman. Hard to say really, without knowing Mike Vrabel’s game plan.

Alex Collins – Collins missed last week’s game against the 49ers with an abdomen injury but will look to return to the starting line-up this week against the Texans. The Texans have been poor against the run this year (shock), which presents a good opportunity for Collins to get back into the swing of things. Collins hasn’t been doing anything other worldly since he got the starting role over Chris Carson, but he has been handling double digit carries in all but one game. The Texans are the 27th ranked run defence and concede 26.28 points to the RB position, on average. Collins is rostered 21.5% of leagues, so he should be available for most of you.

Honourable mention:

JD McKissic – serious boom or bust player, but the best of a bad bunch that is probably left on the waivers.

Reminder – Chuba Hubbard (see week 13 article for analysis and breakdown).

WR:

Laviska Shenault – I am really scraping the bottom of the barrel here, so I would advise looking up an actual fantasy expert, if you are struggling this week in the WR position. The better players on the waivers seem to have difficult matchups, but our boy, Shenault has a handy match-up against the Tennessee secondary. You could easily see the Jaguars going down quick and having to abandon the running game for the passing route, which would lend itself to positive outcomes for the Jaguars WRs. I would side with Shenault over Marvin Jones because he has been getting at least five targets in his last four games. He also has at least eight targets in four games this season and those games all came against defences who were ranked 15th or worse. Tennessee is currently the 32nd ranked defence against WRs and give up 43.26 points to the WR position, on average.

Honourable mention:
