Atlanta Falcons @ Carolina Panthers: Falcons -2.5
The Dirty Birds are on the road for this one and will look to make it 2-0 over the Panthers this year. The Falcons beat the Panthers 37-34 in OT, at home, during their week eight matchup. Regular time ended in a wild PJ Walker Hail Mary to DJ Moore to level the game, only for Pinero to miss the kick. Sickening stuff, but he shouldn’t have been put in that position to start with. The Falcons conceded three touchdowns in the final quarter to allow the Panthers back into it. Foreman got over twice, to go along with Moore’s belter. Overall, the Falcons had this one locked up, before letting this one nearly slip away. I think snatching it back in OT is pretty big, as the Falcons are liable to let a bit of lead slip, so this should give them some confidence.
Looking at the stats, the Falcons run game matches up really well against the weak Carolina run D. As most of you know at this stage, the Falcons are a top five running team, and will likely only get stronger now that Patterson is back. The Panthers are 28th against the run, and just gave up five total touchdowns to Joe Mixon. The Falcons aren’t too hot in defence either, but the Panthers aren’t exactly the Chiefs going forward.
Finally, the Falcons are in the top half of the turnover differential category and the Panthers are in the bottom half. If the Falcons can take away a couple of INTs, they should then lock this one down with the run game. Falcons take it by a touchdown, as they look to make it five in a row in Carolina.
