Week 10 Review

by | Mar 26, 2022 | NFL

Alright y’all, here are my key takeaways from week ten…

Mac Jones and the Patriots are legit

The Patriots dominated the Browns on Sunday night, thrashing them 45-7 in Foxboro. The Patriots rookies showed out, as Mac Jones threw for 198 yards, three TDs and no INTs, and Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 100 yards and two TDs. Jones has been playing at a high level for a while now, and currently looks like the best player in the 2021 draft, but Sunday night he took it to another level. Jones’ performance slashed his Rookie of the Year Award odds from 3/1 to 11/10. One more solid performance and he should take over as favourite from Ja’Marr Chase.

The Patriots had a slow start to the season, but that was to be expected, given the fact that they are essentially a brand-new team put together in the offseason. Players like Hunter Henry and the wide receiver group are getting better by the week, Matthew Judon has been a revelation, and with a solid QB at the helm, along with Belichick’s experience and coaching ability, they should be a solid playoff team.

Are the Chiefs & Mahomes back?

Mahomes and the Chiefs seemed to get out of their slump, Sunday night against the Raiders. Arrowhead was rocking, as Mahomes and his band of merry men hammered the Raiders 41-14 to take them to 6-4 and send them atop of the AFC West. Mahomes completed 35/50 passes for 406 yards and 5 TDs. But more importantly, no INTs. Kelce, Darrel Williams and Hill were on the receiving end of Mahomes stellar performance, recording 119, 101 and 83 yards receiving, respectively. Hill also logged two receiving TDs.

The performance of their defence was what I was most impressed about, holding the Las Vegas offence to 299 yards total. This is only the second time they have achieved that feat all year. While it’s certainly not time to sit back and relax, and say a job well done, it is definitely a timely performance that should give them a lot of confidence going forward, and that will definitely be needed as they face Dallas in week 11.

Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey are definitely back

Cam said it himself, ‘I’m backkkkkk’. The Carolina fan favourite made his shock return to the sunny southeast coast on Sunday night against the 8-1 Cardinals, as the Panthers got a much needed victory. Although Cam only threw the ball four times and carried it three times, he recorded two total touchdowns and kept the Panthers faithful pounding.

Cam should take over the offence from Darnold/PJ Walker in the coming weeks, as he continues to learn the playbook. At least in the short-term, he’ll take over the redzone offence and re-establish himself as one of the most dynamic redzone and short yardage threats the NFL has ever seen.

Christian McCaffrey also had himself a day on Sunday, as he continued his return from injury. McCaffrey rushed 13 times for 95 yards and hauled in 10 catches for 66 yards. His 7.3 yards per carry was utterly dominant and Panthers fans/CMC fantasy owners should be rejoicing, as the heartbeat of their offence is cooking once again. The Panthers should hang around the playoff picture like a bad smell, and McCaffrey and Cam will be the driving force behind the push.

The Green Bay D gets it done again

The Packers defence made history on Sunday night, as they delivered Russell Wilson his first ever shutout game. Green Bay won 17-0 in snowy Wisconsin and move to 8-2 in the NFC. Their Sunday night performance was far from glamourous, as they only scored three points in the first three quarters, but they got the job done, sealing the deal with two AJ Dillon touchdowns in the final quarter.

But their offence wasn’t the main reason they took home the bacon. The defence dominated Russell Wilson and co, holding them to 208 yards total. Wilson went 20 of 40 for 161 yards passing and two INTs. He was also sacked three times, as he struggled on his return from his finger injury.

Aaron Rodgers is playing at an elite level, the running game is looking so strong, and now the defence is making big plays. The Packers are continuing to establish themselves as a hot favourite for a Super Bowl trip.

Kyle Shanahan has Sean McVay’s number

Shanahan and his 49ers have now won the last five games against McVay’s Rams, as he continues his domination over the LA team. The 49ers made a statement on Monday night, beating the Rams 31-10 on their home turf. Jimmy G was solid, completing 15/19 passes for 182 yards and two TDs, Deebo Samuel continued his outrageously productive season and George Kittle was his usual disruptive self. This victory was sorely needed, as Shanahan’s critics were getting louder and more common within media circles. The NFC is pretty bunched up, but San Fran will look to make a playoff push over the next few weeks. This is playing out exactly as I predicted, when I said in one of my first articles that they would start slow and make a deep run late in the year to get them to NFC championship game. Just saying…..

Watch them lose to the Jags in the week 11.

I would not like to be the New York Giants on Monday night

Oh boy, I would not like to be Joe Judge and the New York Giants on Monday night, as they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a furious, Tom Brady. Unexpectedly, Brady lost to one of worst teams in the league on Sunday night, the Washington Football Team. Brady was sloppy, completing 23/34 passes for 220 yards, two TDS and two INTs. 220 yards passing is Brady’s second lowest yards total of the year, only being beaten by his 211-yard performance against Chicago. Brady has now had two INTs in his last two games, which is very unlike the GOAT, but luckily for Brady and the Bucs, they face the Giants on Monday night. Brady already hates New York, losing two Super Bowls to Big Blue, so I would expect him to do everything in his power to get himself and his team back on track.
