Game Preview

Both the Vikings and the Eagles are looking to bounce back from lack lustre performances in week one. The Eagles may have edged out the win, but were fairly pedestrian going forward, only registering 267 total yards, with 170 yards from the arm of Hurts. Defensively, they were cut open by Mac Jones, who threw for 316 and three touchdowns. On the positive side of things, they did have a defensive touchdown, when Slay returned an interception for 70 yards, and also plugged the run game of New England fairly well, only allowing 76 total yards on the ground, with Zeke being the top carrier with 29 yards. The Vikings also stopped the run really well, only allowing Tampa to muster up 73 total ground and pound yards but were diced fairly clinically by Mayfield who threw two TDs, without any picks. The positives for Minnesota were through the air, with their receiving group logging 344 yards, with eight different receivers getting their hands on the ball. Jefferson did Jefferson things, logging 150 yards on nine receptions, with rookie Jordan Addison having a great first game, with 61 yards receiving and a tuddie. With the Eagles conceding so many yards through the air in week one, Minnesota might have the opportunity to do the same again here.

In terms of injuries, both teams are missing some key people. The Vikings will be without starting centre Garrett Bradbury, who looks like he’ll be replaced by Austin Schlottman, making his fifth career start as a Viking. Safety Marcus Davenport also looks unlikely to suit up, which will leave a big enough hole in their secondary. For the Eagles, they will be without corner back, James Bradberry, safety Reed Blankenship, running back Kenny Gainwell and linebacker Nakobi Dean. Some key defensive stars there. Implications of Garrett Bradbury missing the game, probably relate to Philly getting more pressure on Cousins. If he can stay upright, he should have more opportunities than normal against the Eagles, due to their missing defensive players.

Picks:

Over 48.5, 1 point @ 20/23

Mannnn, this is a tough one to call with the spread being so big. Home team advantage is huge, but the Eagles are a little beat up. Cousins was also messy last year in this match-up, getting picked off three times. He also fumbled twice last week, which is a bit of a worry, but he still put up some serious yards through the air. I think both offences like their chances tonight, so going with the over.

DeVonta Smith over 62.5 yards receiving, 1 point @ 5/6

I just love his connection with Hurts and he went over this total in this match-up last year. I also think Hurts will have a point to prove after a poor performance last week, and he leans on his guy to bounce back.
