Keeping this article to two picks to try and minimise the usual damage the start of the season does to me…
Texans @ Colts: Texans -2.5, 1 point @ 8/11 (NAP)
My beloved Texans have a real chance to go far this year, and the good times start with a big win against their divisional rival at Lucas Oil Stadium. CJ Stroud announced himself on the big stage last year, with a historic rookie season, and will look to continue that rich vein of form with a huge performance against a team that also has high hopes for their year two QB. Anthony Richardson looks to have all the traits of a superstar but missed most of last season with a shoulder injury. He is a fairly raw player and with a serious lack of game time under his belt, I think a strong Texans defence will put him under enough pressure to ensure Houston gets the W. Will Anderson Jr, also in his second season, is a top-class player and now has his tag team partner, Danielle Hunter, to cause havoc with. The Texans have too much fire power on both sides of the ball, especially with Stefon Diggs now in a Houstin uniform, and get a big away win here.
Titans @ Bears: Bears -3.5, 0.5 point @ 20/23
I haven’t said for this a while, but the Bears are looking super spicy this season. Caleb Williams looked legit in preseason, and I suppose you could say that he seems to be living up to the hype so far. Deandre Swift, Keenan Allen and rookie, Rome Odunze, are all added to an offence that has star wideout, DJ Moore. The NFL nerds on various platforms also like their defence to be really good this year, so I have high hopes for the Bears to go well. It usually never works out as well as analysts think it will, but if Caleb Williams can continue to do what he needs to do, they have a chance to push for playoff contention. Looking at Tennessee, they have a number of question marks, starting with Will Levis at QB. He had a couple of nice games last year, but I would like to see a bit more from him before we anoint him a capable starter in the league. New addition, Tony Pollard, will look to take some of the pressure off of him, but I’m not sure the ex-Cowboys running back and DeAndre ‘spent commodity’ Hopkins will be enough to get an away win in the windy city.
