Some solid hits in our week six waiver wire targets. Nothing special, but we are out here grinding for some Ws and sometimes it ain’t pretty. Here are last week’s top performers.
- Darrell Williams: 22.40 points
- Mecole Hardman: 12.40 points – *I would like to stress him again.
- Jared Cook: 10.50 points
- Hunter Henry: 9.50 points
- Mo Alie-Cox: 9.30 points
- Devontae Booker: 8.90 points
QB:
Matt Ryan – Due to the Falcons rough start, Ryan has been a bit of a forgotten man this year. However, Matty Ice has been putting up some solid numbers, scoring 29.02 and 22.58 points in his last two games. He has thrown for at least 240 yards and multiple touchdowns in his last four, as well as tossing four touchdowns against Washington in week four. Up next for Ryan and the Falcons is the Miami Dolphins, who are in complete disarray after their loss to the Jaguars, in London on Sunday afternoon. If your QB is on a bye in week seven, I would feel very confident in picking Matt Ryan up off the waivers. Ryan is rostered in 24.5% of leagues.
RB:
D’Ernest Johnson/Demetric Felton – Captain obvious is back with this one. With Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt highly unlikely to play against the Broncos on Thursday night, D’Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton are next up on the depth chart. Johnson is a third-year veteran out of UCLA, who signed with the Browns in 2019. Johnson has two carries for eleven yards in 2021, to go along with one reception for seven yards. Probably not the best stat line you have ever seen, but he’s available in 99.7% of leagues. Demetric Felton, the other RB on the roster, has been favoured heavily in the passing game in 2021. Felton has logged eight catches from nine targets for 90 yards and one touchdown. He also has 254 return yards. Analysts (and the projections) are saying that Johnson will be the early down back, with the rookie Felton taking the passing downs. If you twisted my arm, I would probably take the risk with Felton, but Johnson seems the safer option. I would imagine in the short week, they’ll probably run with the dual threat option. Pardon the pun…
Honourable mention:
Rhamondre Stevenson/Chris Evans – I’m sorry I have to do this, but Stevenson and Evans look like your next best options, depending on your circumstances.
WR:
Donovan Peoples-Jones: DPJ, the second-year wide receiver out of Michigan, had himself a day against Arizona on Sunday night. DPJ had 101 yards receiving and two touchdowns from four targets to land him with 24.10 points. Peoples-Jones’ numbers are inflated slightly from Mayfield’s Hail Mary to end the second half, but the positive sign is that his targets have been increasing as the weeks go on and he seems to have decent chemistry with Mayfield. Worth keeping an eye out for the Wolverine as the weeks go on.
Honourable mention:
TY Hilton – A healthy TY Hilton would warrant a full write-up after his 80-yard receiving performance against Houston on Sunday, but the injury prone wideout is questionable for the upcoming game against the 49ers. Hilton who just returned from missing the first five games of the season due to a neck injury, injured his quad last Sunday against the Texans. Even if he is cleared to play on Sunday, be careful.
REMINDER for Marquez Callaway. Callaway is only rostered in 19.9% of leagues and the Saints play the Seahawks (24th against WR) on Monday night. Callaway is averaging 14.3 points over the last three weeks and things only look up for the young wide-out. He has a lovely schedule coming up, facing Seattle, Tampa, Atlanta and Tennessee, who are all ranked at the bottom of the WR defensive rankings, so he could be a real nice performer over the next few weeks.
Deep Deep Sleeper – Rashod Bateman. The Ravens highest draft pick in the 2021 draft played his first game of the season against the Chargers, after missing the opening five games with injury. Bateman put up a pedestrian 4.90 points against LA on Sunday night, but he tied for the team lead in targets (6). In 2019, for his college team Minnesota, Bateman was named third team Associated Press All-American, Big Ten Receiver of the Year, First-Team All-Conference and team MVP. If you like rookie players with high ceilings who haven’t broken out yet, this is one of your last chances.
TE:
Ricky Seals-Jones – RSJ hauled in four receptions from six targets for 58 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs on Sunday night. Since Logan Thomas has been out injured, RSJ has 99 yards receiving and one touchdown. Thomas is out until at least week eight.
If you’re desperate desperate, have a look at previous weeks’ articles, or see if Robert Tonyan, Jonnu Smith, CJ Uzomah or Cole Kmet are available.
Defence:
Patriots – they play the Jets this week.
