Week five of the NFL regular season is in the books and what a wild week it was. We had a London game, 80+ points scored in the Browns/Chargers game, Lamar Jackson leading the Ravens back from 22-3 down to win dramatically in overtime against the Colts, Brady throwing 400+ yards and 5 TDs in single game for the first time ever (at age 44), and the resignation of Jon Gruden amid a flurry of accusations. Plus, lots of other action.
We also had some decent hits in the week five waiver wire targets:
- Damien Williams: 15.40 points
- Deonte Harris: 16.40 points
- DaVante Parker: 15.70 points
- Marquez Callaway: 22.50 points
- Kadarius Toney: 24.60 points
- Dallas Cowboys: 14.00 points
Looking ahead to week six there are a number of standout prospects this week, due to numerous injuries hitting some key players. Some of these are super obvious and will have been plastered all over other Fantasy Tips pages and the NFL Fantasy app, so I’ll keep them short and sweet. I’ll go into deeper detail on the more obscure picks, which is where we’ll likely find more value and less competition from your fellow league members.
QB:
Trevor Lawrence:
T-Law looked much better last week against the Titans, completing 23/33 passes for 273 yards with one TD and one INT. He also added 28 yards on the ground with one TD. His productive play resulted in a 21.72-point Fantasy performance. Experts are saying that he looked much more comfortable against Tennessee and this performance was in a game week with the Urban Meyer controversy. Not an easy thing to manage as a rookie. Up next for T-Law and the Jags are the abysmal Miami Dolphins. As stated in the introduction, Tom Brady put up his first ever 400+ passing yards and 5 TD performance last week against the Dolphins. In Fantasy terms, they are the 27th ranked defence against QBs, so expect Lawrence to continue his more productive play.
RB:
Darrell Williams:
With Chiefs #1 RB, Clyde Edwards-Helaire out with a sprained MCL, Williams is next up in the depth chart. Williams has had pretty minor roles the first weeks, albeit he has grabbed two TDs. Andy Reid hasn’t seemed to go to #3 RB, Jet McKinnon at all so far, so expect Williams to get the majority of the touches against the Football Team this week.
Trade rumours: apparently the Chiefs are interested in Marlon Mack. Keep an eye out.
Devontae Booker:
It is devastating to see Saquon injured again. As a fan of the sport, it’s tough to see the game’s biggest and most exciting players fall to injury yet again. Barkley Fantasy owners will be doubly sick. But this presents an opportunity to pick Booker up off the waivers and add depth to your RB room, for at least one week. Booker rushed 16 times last week against the Giants for 42 yards and one TD, also bringing in 3/4 passing targets for 16 yards and another TD. Up next for Booker and the Giants is the LA Rams, who have been susceptible to the run this year. According to ESPN, Barkley was seen after the game with crutches and a walking boot, so expect him to miss at least one week.
Honourable mention:
Khalil Herbert – the #3 Chicago RB rushed 18 times last week against the Raiders and looked like he had some juice. I like the look of the young fella.
WR:
Mecole Hardman:
The Chiefs speedster has seen his targets fluctuate on a week-to-week basis, ranging anywhere from 3 to 12, and his yardage totals coming in anywhere from 19 to 76. But his average points scored this year is 8.52 with a season high of 12.10 against a stout Bills defence on Sunday night. This week Hardman and the Chiefs face off against the Washington secondary, who have been sloppy in 2021 to say the least (29th against WRs). This is a great match-up for Hardman as you saw what Winston and the Saints did to the Football Team last week, so expect him and Hill to blow the top off the Washington D in week six.
Honourable mentions:
Laviska Shenault – may not be available on your waivers, as he is rostered in 46.5% of leagues, but if he is, he has a favourable match-up against the Dolphins.
Amon-Ra St. Brown – is the USC rookie starting to get to grips with the league? Back-to-back 10-point fantasy performances, without a TD. St. Brown has been targeted eight times in each of the last two games and had 70 and 65 yards receiving respectively. He hasn’t found the end-zone yet, but his performances are improving so it’s only a matter of time before he does.
Not much more value that I haven’t mentioned in other weeks, so I would advise going back on previous waiver wire articles to see if any of those players are still available.
TE:
Hunter Henry:
I think I mentioned Henry a few weeks ago, but we’ll give him another nod here sure. The New England TE is really heating up scoring wise, clocking 11.20 and 16.50 Fantasy points in his last two games. Henry has been targeted five and eight times respectively in his last two games, while also grabbing a TD in each of those games. He has a favourable match-up in week six against Dallas, who are the 22nd ranked defence against TEs.
Honourable mentions:
Chargers TEs – the smart man would go with the veteran, Jared Cook, but what fun is that? Six-foot-8, Donald Parham had some strong reports in preseason this year and had a nice 11.90 performance last week against the Browns. Maybe a stash and store, but he could be an interesting player with Herbert balling out.
Mo Alie-Cox – the 21st ranked TE is playing the Texans this week and Wentz looked much better last night against the Ravens. The Texans are the 32nd ranked defence against TEs.
