Scottie Gets it Done
I am a day late with this write up, but the additional time has allowed for extra reflection on what was a brilliant Masters from start to finish for Scottie Scheffler (and many others). Well, minus the solid four putt at the end. Despite his little hiccup on 18, Scheffler won easily and cemented himself as the undeniable current world number one. While Cam Smith seemed to be making a slight resurgence on the back nine of the final round after his birdie on 11, he swiftly dropped back to the pack after a disastrous triple-bogey on 12. Not the first time the 12th hole has claimed a victim and ended a Masters’ dream. However, on reflection, Smith’s dream ended a lot earlier, as Scheffler pulled a rabbit out of the hat on the third hole as he chipped in, putting a huge dent in the Australian’s impressive start and comeback fight. Smith birdied the first two holes to cut the deficit to one and had a huge opening to pile on more pressure when Scottie left his approach shot short of the third green. If Smith hadn’t done the same, Scheffler could well have made five, with Smith likely making four, bringing them back to level on -8, leaving Smith full of confidence as they went on to play the par three fourth. Smith then went on to bogey the fourth, which stretched the gap out to four shots, when just a hole ago they could have been level. But credit where credit is due for Scheffler. He is on a historic run of form, claiming four titles in his last six starts, and looks certain for more success in 2022.

McIlroy Leaves Augusta with Plenty of Positives
Scheffler wasn’t the only man leaving Augusta National brimming with confidence. On the final day, McIlroy shot his lowest round ever on the Georgia course, shooting a bogey-free 64 that included six birdies and an eagle on 13. While McIlroy has done this in the past, shooting a low one on the final day when he is out of contention, this time feels a little different. That round was pure electricity and he played with the free-flowing power golf that has seen him bring home major titles in the past. The quote from him that stands out and gives a lot of confidence that he will have success in 2022 is “that’s as happy as I’ve ever been on a golf course right there. That was incredible “. I have been hot and cold with McIlroy in the past, but I’m rooting for him in 2022.

Aidan Hutchinson Not a Lock for the #1 Overall Pick in the 2022 Draft?
Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football has reported that the Jaguars are considering a wild change up and drafting the Georgia Bulldog, Travon Walker. Aidan Hutchinson has been the unanimous #1 pick in every mock draft on the world wide web, but PSchrags has reported that Jaguars GM Trent Baalke is very high on the LB prospect out of Georgia. Reading reports and watching Walker’s combine, you know the guy has special physical traits, but are his traits special enough to go first overall and knock the Michigan sure thing off the number one pedestal? Only time will tell. The 2022 NFL draft kicks off on April 28th.
