Christmas Day Special

by | Mar 26, 2022 | NFL

Ho Ho Ho Christmas Night Football is almost here. Merry Christmas everyone, I hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying the festivities as best as you can. Except you Jimmy Garappolo.

We actually have a decent earl(ish) game on the cards today, as the Cleveland Browns travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers. Aaron Rodgers & Co. are unbeaten in Lambeau Field in 2021, but the Browns have a number of players returning from COVID-19 protocol, and have the added benefit of 7.5 point spread.

The later game is another cracker, but I certainly won’t be able to keep my eyes open until 1:15am to watch the red-hot Colts, travel to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals.

Cleveland Browns @ Green Bay Packers: Packers – 7.5

Browns:

  • Current Record: 7-7 (2-4 away).
  • Offence (Yards Per Game, ESPN): Overall – 341.1 (18th) // Passing – 201.5 (26th) // Rushing – 139.6 (4th).
  • Defence (Yards Allowed Per Game, ESPN): Overall – 321.7 (6th) // Passing – 216.1 (8th) // Rushing – 105.6 (9th)
  • Points Per Game Stats, ESPN: PPG Scored – 20.9 (19th) // PPG Allowed – 21.8 (14th).
  • Turnover Differential: +4 (10th).
  • Injury Report (Out): JC Tretter – C, Chase McLaughlin – PK, Jordan Elliot – DT.

Packers:

  • Current Record: 11-3 (6-0 home).
  • Offence (Yards Per Game, ESPN): Overall – 360.4 (14th) // Passing – 253.6 (9th) // Rushing – 106.8 (21st).
  • Defence (Yards Allowed Per Game, ESPN): Overall – 325.8 (8th) // Passing – 217.9 (9th) // Rushing – 107.9 (13th).
  • Points Per Game Stats, ESPN: PPG Scored – 25.6 (13th) // PPG Allowed – 21.6 (10th).
  • Turnover Differential: +12 (3rd).
  • Injury Report (Out): Billy Turner – G, Malik Taylor – WR, Ty Summers – LB, Chauncey Rivers – LB.

I’ll keep this short and sweet as I can smell the honey glazed cocktail sausages cooking downstairs. Rodgers let my NAP down last week by not covering the spread, but I don’t see that happening again here. Last week, Tyler Huntley had the game of his career for the Ravens, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another two. The same will not be said, after tonight’s game, for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland offence, as they have been struggling massively in recent weeks. Cleveland has scored over 20 points once since week 9. Although the Packers defence has been hit or miss in recent weeks, I like them to slow down the Browns offence fairly well tonight. Once Nick Chubb doesn’t run for a billion yards, Green Bay should be ok.

As for Green Bay, they are a perfect six from six at home, and have won by at least eight points in every game in Lambeau Field. Rodgers is looking good for MVP and on the biggest stage tonight, I see him putting on a show for the patrons in the stadium and at home. I would expect him to throw for at least three touchdowns and lead the Green Bay massive to a victory by around 12 points.
