Week 1 Betting Review // WK 1 Winners & Losers // Week 2 WW Targets

by | Sep 13, 2022 | NFL

Week one is in the books, and she was a gooden. Before we get into that review, the Tuesday structure will be as follows; 1). Previous week’s betting review, 2), Previous week’s winners and losers, and 3). Waiver wire targets that I feel very strongly about. Last year, the Tuesday edition was purely on Fantasy, but there are people out there who have Fantasy and Waiver Wire targets as their full-time job, so I’ll leave the proper analysis to them. But I still share my uneducated opinion on the matter anyway. Classic…

Week 1 Winners & Losers:

Winners:

The Chiefs

Good lawd, the Chiefs beat the brakes off the Cardinals on Sunday night. 37-7 after three quarters is quite the embarrassment for the Cardinals organisation. You may have thought Josh Allen was a lock for the 2022 MVP, but not if Patty Mahomes has anything to do with it. I wonder how those people who said they would fall off with Tyreek gone are feeling right about now. Mahomes was electric on Sunday night, going for 360 yards and five TDS on 30/39 passing. The Chiefs are the team to beat, I don’t care how good the Bills are.

Kirk Cousins

Ooooooo weeeee, that one must have felt good for Kirk Cousins. Beating the reigning, back-to-back MVP in a divisional match-up is the stuff Kirky must wet dream about. But Kirk isn’t just a winner because of the win against Green Bay. New head coach Kevin O’Connell is ushering in a new offensive style of football, bringing their amazing weapons to life. Justin Jefferson is out of this world good and he now he has a head coach that wants the best for the offensive side of the ball. Mike Zimmer was a defensive minded head coach and actively disliked Cousins (Kinda funny actually, hating your QB). It’s only week one, but the Vikings have made a big statement to the NFC North.

Giants Fans

WHAT. A. GAME. Down seven on the Titans goal line, with just over a minute to go, Daniel Jones flicks one out to his TE Chris Myarick and sinks a dagger in the hearts of Titans’ fans, as the Giants look like they are about to go and level the game with the one-point conversion. But Brian Daboll and his absolutely humungous nuts decide to go for two, which Saquon duly converts. This has to go down as one of the best head coaching debuts ever. For the Giants to have the belief to go for the win with the two-point conversion, and for them to actually convert, is the stuff Giants fans have been yearning for. Saquon looking back to his best as well must get big blue all warm and fuzzy inside.

Justin Fields

Putting one on a guy who was drafted higher than you in the same draft, is a big f*ck you. Especially when the team who drafted that guy mortgaged their whole future to get him. Fields fought as hard as anyone on Sunday night, as the Bears got a huge W at home against the 49ers. Throwing for two touchdowns in that monsoon rain is nothing short of a miracle. The 49ers were seven-point favourites as well, which was tied for the largest spread of the night. This result was not supposed to happen. But Justin Fields said, no sir, this is my town, and rallied the troops to a 19-10 win in Soldier Field. Enjoy this one Bears fans, as you might not get any more nights as good as this.

People Who Hate Kickers

It was kicker pandemonium on Sunday evening, as five kickers missed opportunities to win the game for their respective teams. In no particular order of shitiness.

  • Randy Bullock of the Titans missed from 47 yards, after Tannehill marched the offence down the field following Saquon’s two-point conversion in the final minute of their match-up in Nashville.
  • Evan McPherson of the Bengals – after smashing the Bengals longest field goal of all time earlier in the game, McPherson goes on to miss an extra point when the teams were all square with 0:00 left on the clock. He then goes on to miss again with 3:37 left in overtime. This time because of a bad snap. Carnage. The highs and lows, eh?
  • The Steelers’ Chris Boswell slammed one off the post from 55 yards with 2:22 left on the OT clock. After McPherson’s two misses earlier, this was another crazy moment in a wild week one game.
  • Hot Rod of the Indianapolis Colts missed from 42 yards with 2:00 left in overtime and secured my Texans a massive tie…
  • Trailing one point with two seconds left on the game clock, Younghoe Koo was unlucky have his kick blocked. He was 63 yards out all the same.
  • Brandon McManus of the Denver Broncos shouldn’t be kicking in the first place on 4th and 5 with Russell Wilson under center and 64 yards left to the posts. Nathanial Hackett must have been smoking some of that Denver goodness on his way to Seattle.

Losers:

Steelers Defence

The Steelers D was a winner for the most part on Sunday night, however, one man was the driving force behind it all and he is now out with injury. Defensive phenom, TJ Watt went off with a suspected pec tear, but according to recent reports it is not a full tear, and he could even be back in around six weeks. The Steelers D should still be up there with the best, but losing your best man is a huge blow.

Cowboys

Haha. The Cowboys suck, as usual. To make matters worse, Dak when off in the final quarter with a broken bone in his hand. Even still, the Cowboys had only put up three points with him on the field, meaning they went scoreless in three whole quarters. The only loser bigger than the Cowboys’ organisation and fanbase is me for tipping them.

Matt Rhule

My god, Rhule get your team moving in the right direction. If you can’t beat the Jacoby Brissett led Browns in your back yard, you’re in big trouble. Also, I get that your minding McCaffrey, but giving your best player 14 total touches is not going to win you ball games. 33 total rushing yards from CMC is not it, Chief. I don’t know why I keep coming back to the Panthers, they are a dumpster fire. Mayfield had his moments but will need to improve further. A good bit further. Rhule will be on a short leash, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I really thought they were going to be good this year..

Russell Wilson

Oh boy. Wilson’s first return to Lumin field was not a good one. While Wilson himself didn’t have a particularly bad game, losing to your replacement and ex-team is not a winning situation. Some five-star analysis right there… It’s also a pretty bad situation when your head coach doesn’t trust you enough to go for it on 4th and 5 with 20 seconds left on the clock. Broncos’ country, lets… go for a moronic field goal.

Me

NAP lost, which makes me a whopper loser.

Week 2 Waiver Wire Targets:

RB:

  • Jeff Wilson. Jeff Wilson. Jeff Wilson.

WR:

  • Jahan Dotson
  • Robbie Anderson
  • Jarvis Landry

Until Thursday.
